Meet the Maker.

There is a slightly shorter, and perhaps more accurate, introduction to me in the post entitled “Introduction”.

Nonetheless, you are here, and I am here, so let’s do something with the time, eh?

I am over 30 now. People would have us believe that times flies by, and that the older we get, the faster things seem to happen. Rubbish. They are lying to you. Einstein had it right… everything is relative. There are occasions when time flies by and there are times when it drags. Still the slowest that time has ever passed for me was during any of Mr. Ball’s science lectures when I was at high school. (Finger nails grew faster than that man could make a point.) Alas, I digress.

In my approaching dotage, I have made a list of things to do before I am 40. And in the spirit of sharing… I thought I would share.

1) I want a Porsche. I have wanted one for as long as I can remember. I don’t care what model (They are all equally beautiful) and I don’t care if it is new or used. It will be MINE. (Gollum never wanted anything this badly.)

2) I want to see Italy. More specifically, I want to picnic under a tree, drinking chilled white wine and munching olives, watching a Tuscan sunset.

3) I want to get published. Not online. Not in a magazine. (Been there, done that.) I want a book. I want editorial blurb. I want Stephen King to hail my book as a “Masterpiece of modern fiction.” I want to be compared favourably with Tolkein.

4) I want always to live near the sea. Life is better with waves in the background.

5) I want to visit the Black Forest. I want to see the ghosts of the fallen in the bloodiest patch of wood in the world.

6) I want to visit the Temple Church in London. I want to get inside. (Not like the last time.)

7) I want to still be happily married. Life without a partner is not life, the living is in the sharing.

8 ) I want to learn another language. English, Afrikaans and a smattering of Chinese. Not enough… I want another.

9) I want to have worked in a job that appreciates me, and that I appreciate in return. None of this faceless, corporate drone stuff. I want to be known, noticed and an individual. I want to be able to channel creative energies into work, and to reap the reward of my efforts.

10) Always…. always… I want to be content. In the Prozac-strewn wilderness that is everyday life for the masses… I want to be able to kick back at night-time, turn off the light, and think “That was a good day.”

Of course, I am human… so a few of things are likely to change, be improved upon, or removed. I’ll keep you posted.

Ezra. Out.
